The Las Vegas Raiders are onto Week 5 and the New England Patriots and they are doing so with a new feeling in the early days of the Klint Kubiak tenure.
They are begining are going through a work week coming off a loss for the first time under Kubiak. The Raiders are now 3-1 after losing a closely contested 30-27 home game to the Kansas City Chiefs.
The theme of this week for Kubiak is learning. Kubiak is stressing to his players and coaching staff that they must learn from the experience and the mistakes
made in the defeat to improve as a team. Kubiak has said he is having honest covnersations with the team this week to ensure they learn.
“I just think that’s the easiest way,” Kubiak said. “Here’s the tape. Here’s what we got right. Here’s
what we got wrong. Here’s where we’re not correct as coaches. Here’s where we didn’t make the play as
a player. And if we can just put it in front of those guys and everyone sees it, and as a team we can learn
from it and get better, then we’re going the right direction.”
Kubiak is pleased how his team has responded this week thus far.
“They’re disappointed, and they’re a very mature group that wants to win,” Kubiak said. “So, we’re fixing the corrections. We’re trying to make ourselves better. Whether we win or whether we lose, we’re telling each other the truth and just seeing what we can do to be a better team moving forward.”
So, while Kubiak is clearly not pleased to lose, he does value this opportunity to make everyone better because of it.
“Yeah, (the games) all are. They all are,” Kubiak said. “Every game you learn more about your team, you learn
more about yourself as a coach, and you have to go make the corrections, get better.”
