It looks like Maxence Lacroix will be a Chelsea player here shortly, with the Blues “finalizing” the deal with Crystal Palace today. That’s based on some slightly non-standard reporting from The Athletic, focusing on a non-finalized deal and a scheduled medical, but hopefully they’re not jumping the gun.
Chelsea have been talking with Palace about Lacroix for a while — it’s been a month since we were “preparing to advance” — but given that the reported fee has remained in the region of £50-55m all
along, we may have been just waiting for Palace to figure out their succession plans. As things stand now, those plans may yet include Axel Disasi, even (but probably not as a primary option).
In any case, Lacroix is set for his medical today then, with a six-year contract awaiting him at its successful completion. The 26-year-old center back should add some much needed steady leadership to the squad, in addition to his solid defending.
