If you’re on Twitter/X and other various social media platforms, you come across plenty of criticism regarding Broncos quarterback Bo Nix. He is, for whatever reason, a player who generates a lot of discussion that is mostly fueled by pre-draft narratives that some do not want to move on from.
Well, this past week, there was another instance of Bo Nix criticism that was hilariously false. Former NFL player Geoff Schwartz, who is currently employed by FS1 and appears on the show First Things First,
had some interesting takes on the Broncos quarterback.
He said, Nix “is what he is at this point” and added “he’s not gonna push the ball down the field all that often”. This, of course, is the false “checkdown merchant” narrative that is often applied to Nix.
Well, after the Twitter/X page for First Things First posted about this, it was later community noted on X with the caption, “Bo Nix has thrown the most passes of 20+ air yards since the start of the 2024 season (19 including postseason) per official NFL Next Gen stats”.
This tweet drew the criticism from Broncos Country, including myself as you can see above, who all chimed in with their witty responses to this false piece of information. However, the criticism was not just limited to fans, it also came from none other from Sean Payton who has seen enough and had to add his two cents in.
Payton replied to the tweet with. “Always easy to tell who works at it and who doesn’t” implying Schwartz did not put the work in and is just repeating false narratives.
After the game on Friday Night, Payton was asked about this interaction and he told reporters, he simply couldn’t help himself.
“That was crazy wasn’t it? I can’t help myself though. When I see something like that, I’m sorry. It’s just, I have a pause and then it’s like, ‘What are you watching?’ Just watch the tape. Here’s the thing though. I think—and this is for any player—sometimes when you’re on the East Coast, you don’t see, whatever, but when you get to see… I remember the first time I ever saw a [former NFL WR] Percy Harvin or [former NFL RB] Adrian Peterson, it was completely different than… So to see someone live and to actually watch them is… Getting back to your question relative to… They’re just… You guys grind at it, but now you have so many variations. You’ve got the basement podcast with the beer logo and I just couldn’t help myself with that one. It was silly. Everything was the opposite of what he was saying and the worst part was he played at Oregon. I don’t even know the player, so.”
Payton added “everything was the opposite of what he was saying” and that “the worst part was he played at Oregon”.
If you come at Bo Nix with some false narratives, just know the Sean Payton does check Twitter/X or is at least made aware of these comments and is not afraid to respond. Obviously, Payton is a big fan of Bo Nix and has been singing his praises and defending his quarterback since he was drafted. It’s great to see the Broncos head coach publicly go out and defend and support his quarterback, especially against some weak and lazy criticisms like this.
