In our “Let’s Argue” series, Mark Gunnels considers the hot takes, wacky predictions and unpopular opinions of Kansas City Chiefs fans from all over the world.
All the free agents will do no good until Andy changes the structure of his schemes.
From an offensive standpoint, the only outside free agents the Chiefs have brought in are running backs.
Of course, that would be the duo of Kenneth Walker III and former Arizona Cardinals tailback Emari Demercado.
Head coach Andy Reid needs to make some tweaks
to his scheme, but I don’t believe that has much to do with the running game. The offensive line created plenty of running lanes this past season, but way too often running Isiah Pacheco didn’t see them, and while Kareem Hunt’s vision is good, he simply doesn’t have the burst he once did.
Those are issues you won’t have to worry about when it comes to Walker and Demercado. As you saw during the playoffs, Walker has excellent vision to go along with the explosiveness Kansas City desperately needs.
Demercado doesn’t lack explosiveness either. Although on limited carries, he averaged over seven yards per carry in Arizona.
Reid and company need to become more innovative when it comes to their route concepts in the passing game, but a much-improved running game should only help open things up.
Unless one of the big name EDGE guys are there at 9, we are picking Tate or Tyson. I feel it coming. We haven’t even coughed at any receiving options in FA
This is where I’m starting to land, and I’ll take it a step further.
Even if defensive linemen David Bailey of Texas Tech or Rueben Bain Jr. of Miami are there at pick No. 9, I still think there’s a real possibility general manager Brett Veach takes Carnell Tate, the wide receiver from Ohio State.
There’s no denying how much of a glaring need edge rusher is for this defense. However, with tight end Travis Kelce nearing the end and the uncertainty of wide receiver Rashee Rice’s future, the Chiefs need blue-chip weapons for the next phase of quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ career.
With the recent history of Ohio State receivers, it would be very hard to pass on Tate.
Bolton is worth his contract.
Is Nick Bolton the ideal MIKE linebacker in today’s league?
No.
Ideally, you’d like a versatile linebacker that can play sideline-to-sideline with the ability to cover in space. Those areas aren’t Bolton’s strength, to say the least.
What Bolton is great at is plugging gaps and stuffing the run.
It depends on what you value, but with a linebacker profile like Bolton’s, you must surround him with players who excel in areas he lacks.
I am thinking 20-0 next season…
Obviously, this isn’t the real Andy Reid talking like this.
I’m not sure if this is sarcasm or not, but there’s no chance of this happening.
Maybe in NFL Madden 27.
