Despite being on the Injured List, Matt Strahm
is still mentoring Daniel Lynch IV.He stood up from the bench to go get his warmup bands and start his routine in case the bullpen phone rang.
That is, until a hand clamped down on his shoulder.
“Sit down,” Matt Strahm remembers telling Lynch. “This isn’t you. Just chill.”
“He’s like, ‘Huh, I’m just so used to doing all this.’ I was like, ‘Well, now you learn how to save yourself for the leverage.’”
Remember the 2021 MLB Draft? What are they up to?
Kansas
City made headlines for taking Frank Mozzicato seventh overall five years ago, but the savings used on signing the Connecticut prep lefty allowed the group to sign local products Ben Kudrna and Jensen for above slot in the second and third respectively. It’s Jensen who has emerged as the best talent from this class as he methodically developed both sides of his game to become a well-rounded backstop. After a loud debut in 2025, he’s been quieter offensively to begin his age-22 season, but the potential is still there for him to take up the primary catching torch from Salvador Perez in KC.
In case you missed it, Bailey Falter was designated for assignment. Hurrah!
Philip Ruo, of Royals Keep ponders if Alec Zumwalt should be let go. (As someone who has wrote two articles saying they should, the answer is yes!)
After a shaky season at the plate in 2025, the Royals have not made substantial progress offensively in 2026. Right now, the Royals sit at a wRC+ of 93, which is tied with the San Francisco Giants for 23rd in MLB.Alec Zumwalt has been the Royals’ Major League hitting coach and Senior Director of Hitting Performance since May 2022. Since 2021, the Royals’ team wRC+ has not been above league average, and excluding the playoff season in 2024, that mark has not risen above 93.
Cristopher Sánchez of the Phillies broke a 115! year old record last night.
The Tigers are really banged up and just as bad as the Royals, could they trade Skubal?
Yordan Alvarez continues to mash homers, per usual, with back-to-back two homer games.
Munetaka Murakami of the White Sox hit his 20th homer last night, is he the AL ROY?
The Cardinals carried a no-hitter into the bottom of the 8th, but still got swept by Milwaukee.
The Cubs snapped a 10-game losing streak yesterday behind Ian Happ’s big day
Juan Soto is unbelievably hot currently and carrying the Mets.
State baseball and softball is going on currently in my home state of Kansas, I’m in Lawrence for softball, here is a link to some of the results.
Old friend Jonathan Heasley threw up on the mound again last night, this time in his Rays debut.
Today’s song of the day is I Want To Break Free by Queen
