After the Syracuse season went off the rails, there was a lot of online chatter from Orange fans lamenting their fate as the “laughingstock” of college football.
So, let’s take a look at a selection of
Syracuse’s “peers” and how they’ve done since 2010. A 15-year stretch that has featured a lot of lows, but how has it compared to other schools. I decided to look at two specific criteria- seasons with 6 or more wins, and their highest season win total since 2010 and here’s what we’ve got:
I’m not trying to pretend that Syracuse has been a good football program during this time period. Seven bowl berths puts the Orange just above the bottom of this group and the company isn’t a collection of schools you’re proud to be linked with. If you’ve been around here for a while, you know we’ve talked about the way Syracuse has often over-scheduled and that’s part of the reason why they are behind Boston College and others when it comes to reaching that six-win mark.
This should also be a reminder that Syracuse fans shouldn’t be so quick to dismiss the 10-win seasons we’ve been able to enjoy. Yes, it’s frustrating to take a step forward, then tumble right down, but it’s not an easy path to hit double-digit wins and we should remember to enjoy those moments.
Does anything jump out to you looking at this table? What other schools should we add to this comparison?
