No, this is not the resurfacing of an article from last offseason; this is a completely new update.
Kentucky fans know the name Donovan Dent very well. Last offseason, as the Mark Pope era transitioned from year one to year two, there was a stretch when Big Blue Nation thought Dent would end up being PG1 for the Wildcats the upcoming season.
As time went on, and money went up, Kentucky would ultimately lose out on the New Mexico transfer to Mick Cronin and UCLA. A year later, Dent had exhausted his
eligibility and retired after being coached by Cronin for one season.
Ironic, right?
With the recent news of 5-for-5eligibility being extended to the class of 2022, new names become available across the country, with Dent being one of them.
In a recent article by Jack Pilgrim of KSR, he noted that Dent is a player that Kentucky is “keeping an eye on,” on top of the other names that have been reported that Kentucky is showing interest in.
Mark Mitchell, Jaxon Kohler, Cade Tyson, and Keyshawn Hall all have something in common: Size. They aren’t all the same type of player, but they would most likely start right away at the power forward position for the 2026-27 Wildcats.
Dent, however, brings a different approach entirely. A true point guard that would get thrown into a backcourt that is essentially already set in stone with Zoom Diallo and Alex Wilkins at the point guard and shooting guard spots. Adding Dent to that would say one of two things: Either the staff is worried about the backcourt, or Dent, to them, is just such an elite player that they can’t pass on him no matter the cost.
