The roller coaster surrounding Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold’s glute injury continues
, but a much clearer and positive picture is coming into focus.According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Darnold is “more day-to-day than week-to-week,” which aligns with Monday’s report that a team spokesperson revealed his injury is considered to be short term. An exact return timeline has yet to be disclosed by the Seahawks, but Darnold will miss Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals.
A stint on
injured reserve has been ruled out.
Although Rapoport added there’s an “outside chance” the Super Bowl winning quarterback could return for the team’s Week 3 road matchup against the Washington Commanders, a more realistic vision would be for the following Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers.
In his absence, Drew Lock is set to start under center, with Jalen Milroe serving as the backup. The Seahawks have yet to sign another quarterback, and have not brought any in for a tryout, boding well for a quick return.
Further updates will likely be provided during head coach Mike Macdonald’s press conference following Wednesday’s practice, as well as on the team’s first injury report of the week which is set to be released later in the evening.
