On Sunday, it was reported that the Cincinnati Bengals were again entertaining trade offers for star pass rusher Trey Hendrickson. In the spring, the Bengals allowed Hendrickson to assess his value, but no deal came to fruition. The reported asking price was a first-round pick.
After no real progress has been made in terms of an extension, it appears the Bengals are again ready to listen to offers for the 2024 NFL sack leader, and we now have a report on what they’re currently looking for.
It would
appear the Bengals’ asking price has gone up. According to Dianna Russini, the Bengals would like a young defensive player back in the trade, plus a first-round pick in 2026.
If no team was willing to part with a first-rounder in this year’s draft, it is hard to imagine a team offering up a player and a premium draft pick next season. As we’ve seen with the Bengals in the past, they value their players extremely highly on the trade market and will only accept the deal if they feel they are the clear winners.
They value Hendrickson enough to demand a large draft haul, but don’t appear to value him enough to give him the guaranteed money he is seeking to finish his career in Cincinnati.
A trade remains extremely unlikely, and based on the return the front office reportedly wants, it doesn’t appear this situation will be resolved any time soon.
