Writer’s Prelude. Let’s just do a quick recap of the game we just saw. No real fluff as we all have better things to do.
Very Quick Brazil v Morocco Recap
A Deserved Draw? The match between Brazil v. Morocco ultimately ended in a 1-1 draw (congrats Juni on the
prediction) and had highs at times but to be honest a fair share of low. Morocco dominated in patches, Brazil dominated in patches. It was nice to see both Real Madrid starters Vinicius Jr. and Brahim Diaz involved in quite frankly class goals. And I’ll admit it was nice to see Don Carlo Ancelotti sporting a three-piece suit in blazing hot summer weather.
Future? However, I’m left after watching this game somewhat wondering if either team really has the ability to make a true dent in this competition. Morocco imo looked like the better team but there is some careless passing from them at times and it appears to be a strong inconsistency during this game’s performance. The team had a genuine moment after their first goal to put this game away and they just didn’t put their foot on the gas. Brahim Diaz — who overall had an ok performance but an assist — was at fault at times for doing what he always does aka holding onto the ball far too long when he needs to pass. It was noticeable how he was later shifted to the right side of the pitch as if to keep him away from the general build up. Also quick shoutout to Bouaddi — who is going to further make a name for himself this world cup. It’s a shame he resigned and has around a 70M release clause or I think Real Madrid would actually follow his profile a bit more closely.
Brazil also seems like a team that of course could shock you at any moment but could also be shocking at any moment. The starting midfield was disheveled to say the least. Raphinha’s fluidity left the right-sided channel with zero hope. Vini had a brilliant moment for his goal and 2 other noticeable dribbles but was also wasteful at times or simply no where to be found (not always his fault sometimes the midfield). Luckily, Brazil has one of the better CB pairings in the tournament but I’m not sure if this team nor its fan’s can defensively concentrate for prolonged periods of time. Brazil was also lucky not to have Paqueta and Fabinho receiving yellow cards. Cards will surely be something this team will need to follow and be careful of. But yea ultimately, I see both teams qualifying for the Round of 32 (a relatively easier feat in this tournament). However, I’m not sure either will proceed much further unless their joint performances become better. Aside, Brazil should integrate Endrick or Cunha into the mix better. Igor Thiago is a tall body but really only that.
