So there’s bad news and then there’s good news. The bad news is that Pedro Porro sustained a (relatively) minor hamstring injury in Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-3 loss at home to Aston Villa last weekend and is expected to miss a month of action. That’s according to the Athletic, who state that Porro is expected to be out for the entire international break and will very likely miss Spurs’ next match against Manchester United on October 10 and possibly the following match against Coventry City.
The good news
is that this is actually, as far as hamstring injuries go, pretty minor, and that three of those four weeks are taken up with the mega-international break, meaning Pedro’s actual time missed should be relatively minor, all things considered. He’s expected to be back in time to play Chelsea on October 24.
Honestly, I expected worse. When I saw Pedro slam his fist to the ground while massaging the back of his leg in the Aston Villa match, I expected the worst. Generally players don’t react that way unless they know there’s a serious problem, and hamstrings are a serious problem. But a month out means that this is likely a strain or a minor (grade 1?) tear and not a significant injury. (This is the part where I point out that I am neither a doctor nor did I stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.)
That means Archie Gray at right back for the next match or two, and while Archie’s had his ups and downs he’s also shown he can not only play in that position but is also starting to develop a rapport with Savio ahead of him on that right side.
Look, if you’re going to miss a month of football, it’s best if the majority of that recovery time happens at a time when the club is not actually playing matches. I don’t care if he misses time with Spain, they just won a World Cup and can start the next cycle without him as far as I’m concerned. This will give him a chance to heal and start his recuperation so his absence will be minimized. And yes, that IS good news.
