What is the story about?
The Mariners won their first game of (hopefully) many, it’s a glorious Saturday and today our beLLoved LLinks master gets married! Ders has been writing here for 12 years, while also doing things like high school graduation, college graduation, broadcasting around the country, getting engaged and now, literally today, perhaps even at this very minute as you are reading, getting married. He is dedicated, thoughtful, warm and brilliant, and we are just so fortunate that he chooses to gift us with his time
and energy day in and day out. Here’s to a lifetime of joy, a partnership that remains strong even when that joy flags and, of course, to many more links. We love ya!
In Mariners news…
- Beloved broadcaster, Seattle sports media icon and all-around brilliant human Angie Mentink opened up about recovering from a stroke suffered during the offseason. We are so lucky to have her, and grateful to hear she’s on the mend – with her signature humor!
- Carlos Vargas went on the IL with a lat strain and Kate has a great writeup on his replacement, Cole Wilcox
- Unlike Danny Valencia, who thirsted for the attention, Josh Naylor doesn’t love catching ceremonial first pitches. The exception? Hilary Knight, who was there along with her fellow Seattle Torrent Olympians
- Sometimes nostalgia halts progress or stifles creativity. Not so with The Late Innings Show, which features beloved former Mariners relievers Charlie Furbush and Tom Wilhelmsen. The first episode drops this weekend!
- Love Sarah Langs, do not love her latest stat
Around the league…
- Carlos Santana is a friend to all
- Dislikes: Edwin Díaz, Dodger; Edwin Díaz wearing number 3 / Likes: Trumpet lady
- Mario Delgado Genzer considered what success looks like
- Forget a WBC slump – Andrés Giménez walked it off for the Blue Jays, and credited his confidence to his recent championship victory with Team Venezuela
- Luis Severino’s career has been a rollercoaster, but you know who’s been exceptional every step of the way? Ryan Blake, who wrote up the A’s starter embarking on his 11th year in the majors
- We’re really lucky Ders normally does these, because he has an excellent moral compass. If I had to write Moose Tracks regularly, I would simply never share things like Mike Trout homering and the Angels going 2-0 for the first time since 2007
- And I’d never know things like Damon Keith being traded to the Brewers. Or the existence of Damon Keith at all
- New baseball sicko shit, promoted by the crown prince of baseball sicko shit
- Out: Simon Says / In: Salvy Says
- See, this is that boring nostalgia I was talking about earlier. Best of luck in Anaheim, I guess?
