The Pittsburgh Steelers are kicking off the new league year by re-signing one of their top young secondary members.
Cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. is staying in Pittsburgh, signing a one-year, $4 million deal, per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.
The Steelers signed Samuel in November after he recovered from neck surgery. He made his Steelers debut against the Buffalo Bills in Week 13 and finished the year with 10 tackles and an interception.
With Samuel returning, it is safe to assume he will be one of the focal
points of the rotation. Should Pittsburgh not make any other notable signs at the position, he could be the locked in No. 2 starter opposite Joey Porter Jr.
Samuel began his career with the Los Angeles Chargers, being drafted in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He picked off six passes from 2021-23 before playing in just four games in 2024 due to the aforementioned neck injury.
