Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani broke his own franchise home run record with a solo blast on Sunday in Seattle, hitting his 55th home run of the season.
The home run came in the seventh inning on Sunday, the final day of the regular season, off left-hander Gabe Speier.
That’s a pretty good way to begin with a new team, breaking the Dodgers record with 54 home runs in his first season, and now 55 home runs in his second season. He won
his third MVP award last November, unanimously, and will be the favorite to win another National League MVP this season.
Ohtani on Friday also stole his 20th base of the season, just the sixth season in major league history with 50 home runs and 20 stolen bases. He’s the only player with two such seasons.
With 109 home runs since the start of 2024 — he’s one of only seven MLB players to hit at least 50 homers in consecutive seasons — Ohtani obliterated the previous Dodgers record for home runs in a two-year span, when Shawn Green hit 91 home runs in 2001-02.
The home run gave Ohtani his 146th run scored of 2025, most by a Dodger in the modern era, and only two shy of the franchise record set back in 1890 by Hub Collins.
Ohtani leads the majors with 380 total bases this season, after leading the majors with a Los Angeles Dodgers-record 411 total bases in 2024. His 791 total bases are the most ever by a Dodger during a two-year span.
Now Shohei Ohtani has a new Dodgers record with 55 home runs, too.
