Macy Brown, a junior guard on the No. 2-seed Michigan women’s basketball team, will miss the rest of the season due to a torn ACL, the team announced via social media. She sustained the injury during a team practice last Saturday. The Wolverines play No. 3 seed Louisville on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. ET (ABC).
Brown averaged 2.5 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 12.4 minutes per game for Michigan this season. Her presence off the bench provided key minutes for the Wolverines, as she served as sophomore
point guard Mila Holloway’s primary backup. Running the point, her consistency allowed sophomore guard Syla Swords to remain off-ball as Brown facilitated the offense.
Brown had a clutch breakout performance against then-No. 13 Ohio State on the road, catalyzing a key 8-0 run to tie the game in overtime en route to an eventual comeback win. She followed that game up with a seven-point outing against then-No. 14 Maryland, going 3-for-3 from the field.
“She’s just absolutely the most incredible human that you’ve ever been around, the most unselfish person, the biggest heart, the biggest cheerleader for everyone in our program,” head coach Kim Barnes Arico said on Friday. “So when she went down in practice the other day, it was just crushing. It was crushing for all of us. I think, you know, every teammate has rallied around her, and every teammate feels the exact same way about Macy. Brown’s presence will be greatly missed, a leader on the team and player who provides critical, consistent bench minutes for the Wolverines.
