Wendell Moore was one of our favorite Blue Devils. It’s not that he was always a dominant player or that he was one of the very best players Duke ever had. That’s a select few and he wasn’t on that level.
He was very good though and what we liked about him was first his growth and second his struggles. Moore had a terrible shooting slump at one point and when he finally hit a shot, you could see the relief on his face.
In short, he struggled but overcame, which is impossible not to admire. Moore became a tremendous leader and defender at Duke.
His NBA career, so far, has been marginal. He started with Minnesota, then was a Piston and spent last year back home with the Charlotte Hornets with G-League stops along the way.
Now he’s signed with Boston and competing for a two-way contract.
Given the heart we saw in Durham, it won’t surprise us if he makes the team. But if not, he could have a long and very successful career overseas as well.
