SYRACUSE 9, ROCHESTER 7 (BOX)
Early on, Syracuse had a solid lead, but that all blew up when Joe Jacques loaded up the bases to begin the fifth and Ben Simon subsequently allowed all of those runs and then some to score, turning a 5-2 lead into a 7-5 deficit. Luckily for Syracuse, the offense came roaring back in the top of the sixth, with Christopher Morel blasting a two-out, three-run homer to put the Mets back on top. The homer was the third baseman’s second of the ballgame and he would go yard
a third time in the ninth for a three-homer, 6 RBI afternoon.

Reading made this one slightly competitive in the middle innings, when they put up a three-spot in the fourth and tacked on another run in the fifth to make it a 5-3 ballgame, but at no point did Binghamton trail in this one. Mitch Voit led off the game with a solo homer, his first of four hits, and the offense did not look back.

Clay Holmes made the start for the Cyclones in another rehab appearance, perhaps his last outing as a member of the organization. The right-hander ended up cruising until he wasn’t, allowing four runs- three earned- over 5.1 innings, giving up 7 hits, striking out 3, and not walking a batter. He threw 73 pitches, 53 for strikes, his velocity was there, and his secondaries were moving. All in all, he looked like a healthy, ready-to-go pitcher. The Cyclones offense was clicking since the first inning, and ended up scoring six runs, but obviously the offense, wins, all of that was the secondary story to Clay Holmes and what happens with him in the next couple of hours.
