Portland Trail Blazers guard Jrue Holiday and forward Deni Avdija have both been nominated for Western Conference Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 27 to Nov. 2, the league announced today.
The Blazers
went 3-0 during that span, with wins over the Los Angeles Lakers, Utah Jazz and Denver Nuggets, bringing their record on the season to 4-2 as they head into another matchup with the Lakers tonight. Avdija led the Blazers in scoring during the three wins, averaging 22.3 points per game while shooting 50% from the field and 41.2% on 3s. That production went along with 5.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.3 blocks per game.
Holiday was a close second in points per game during the streak with 20.7 on 54.5% shooting from the field and 40.9% shooting from deep. The veteran guard also averaged 9 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game during the week.
Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander took home the award for the Western Conference this week. He led the Thunder to a 4-0 record while averaging 28.8 points, 6.5 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game. In the East, Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey was named the Player of the Week. He averaged 33.5 points and 9.8 assists per game as the 76ers went 3-1.
Beyond Avdija and Holiday, other Western Conference nominees for the award included Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker, Lakers teammates Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, and Houston Rockets big man Alperen Sengun. Eastern Conference nominees included Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown, Detroit Pistons guard Cade Cunningham, Chicago Bulls guard Josh Giddey, Atlanta Hawks forward Jalen Johnson and Milwaukee Bucks guard Ryan Rollins.
