What is the story about?
Guardians’ former middle-infielder, Jose Tena, whom they traded to the Nationals in the Lane Thomas deal, is coming home.
The Nationals released Tena this week and, today, the Guardians acquired him off waivers. Why? Well, that’s anyone’s guess.
Tena has been terrible with the Nationals, putting up an 85 wRC+ and -0.3 fWAR while being a bad defensive third baseman and not trusted to play anywhere else. He has an 84 wRC+ for his career vs. RHP and 77 wRC+ vs LHP. He’s 25 years old and a left-handed
hitter.
I guess the team may think it has the secret to finishing his development since they were the ones who scouted and developed him at first? Someone smarter is gonna have to explain this one to me, but I suppose it’s just roster churn.
