Welcome to the Morning Commute
Today we are talking about… You guessed it, Mizzou Football! (How could we not)
A bunch happened on the Mizzou Football front on Tuesday and first, let’s get the bad out of the way.
It was confirmed on Tuesday by former Missouri EDGE Damon Wilson II that he will be entering the portal this offseason and look for a new team to suit up with in 2026. This came as a surprise to a lot of people as most thought Wilson would either declare for the NFL Draft or stay for his final year of eligibility. This one
stings for Missouri fans and Drinkwitz officially has another position group that he will be targeting in the portal.
The Tigers got busy with three portal additions on Tuesday. Ole Miss QB Austin Simmon’s commitment came in the morning, and then Mizzou fans were hit with a 1-2 punch when Notre Dame S JaDon Blair and Houston Christian RB Xai’Shaun Edwards committed within 20 minutes of each other.
Along with that, the Tigers hosted a bunch of potential portal targets on Tuesday. Check out the full list here.

Missouri landed their first transfer portal commitment of the offseason with the addition of Oregon cornerback Jahlil Florence — coming at a position of need.
Florence is a big upside piece for the Tigers and could see a lot of time all season long if he can stay healthy.

Simmons, who won Ole Miss’ starting job out of summer camp this season, suffered an injury that saw him lose his role to D-2 transfer Trinidad Chambliss. Simmons has been praised by his coaches for his attitude and leadership through a difficult period, and it makes sense why the former blue-chip recruit would want to find a more comfortable landing spot.
I think a lot of people don’t realize that Simmons was never really “benched”. He got hurt and then Chambliss started leading Ole Miss to a CFP. Two different things. I think there is a bunch of upside with Simmons.
With the loss of Zion Young to eligibility and now Wilson, Missouri will look to rostered pass rushers Darris Smith and Langden Kitchen for increased roles this upcoming season along with potentially shopping in the portal.
Add it to the list of position groups Drinkwitz needs to be shopping for!
Mizzou returns its star duo at running back, Ahmad Hardy and Jamal Roberts, but the Tigers lost a trio of players at the position — Marquise Davis, Brendon Haygood and Tavorous Jones — to the transfer portal, leaving them short on depth.
Definitely a depth piece for this season but with three years of eligibility remaining, I’d keep an eye on the name.
Blair was a true freshman this season, appearing in just one game for the Irish before redshirting, so Missouri picks up the safety with four full years of eligibility. Out of high school, Blair was a four-star recruit and a top 20 safety in his class, choosing Notre Dame over schools like South Carolina and Michigan.
Sounds like a solid project piece for Drinkwitz but I don’t know if Blair will be suit to be a first-year starter for the Tigers.
Indiana went into Eugene, Oregon in October and dominated the Ducks, winning by 10. I’m not sure why they won’t repeat the same outcome the second time around. Indiana has only gotten better and this game is on a neutral field rather than at Oregon. The Hoosiers may not win by double digits again, but I do think they’ll win by a touchdown.
I’m with Nathan here. I see a similar outcome to what their first game ended like. I’d also dare to say whoever wins this game will be your National Champion.
Over at Rock M+ we have more Mizzou football discussion and basketball discussion with the transfer portal picking up for football, and SEC play picking up for basketball.
