Club manager? Sporting director? CEO? President?
Thomas Müller seems cut out for any or all of those roles. Probably not simultaneously, but as Erling Haaland famously once said, “Eh… why not?”
The club legend is everything Bayern Munich identifies with. He is everything FC Bayern represents. His class on and off the pitch, his relentless drive and desire, his unique personality, and his popularity among the fanbase… all of these qualities make him one of one. Even during the twilight of his footballing
career, there were already talks of him returning to the club as a manager when he hung up his boots.
He is a tactical mastermind, and he understands FC Bayern. He understands what the club represents and exemplifies its footballing philosophy. Bayern’s star midfielder Aleksandar Pavlović shares the sentiment, and in an interview with Torben Hoffmann (@Sky_Torben) of Sky Sport Germany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Pavlović was asked if he thinks Thomas Müller will be back to the club as his boss.
He responded, “I really hope he comes back. He’s an absolute legend for this club. FC Bayern needs people like him.”
And aren’t we all in unanimous agreement?
BFW Analysis
After having experienced the likes of Oliver Kahn in Bayern’s management, it sure feels like Bayern could do a lot worse than have Thomas Müller at the helm in an executive role… perhaps as club president or club CEO… he could even start as director of sport and work his way to the top. The possibilities are all out there.
Of course, I personally would like to see Müller coach Bayern and am almost certain he’d do a fantastic job, since we have already witnessed him coaching the team on the pitch to a high degree of success. Watching him scream at the players from the sidelines when Bayern is 5-0 up against a hapless Premier League side in the Champions League semi-final would be quite the spectacle.
Either way, Thomas Müller’s return feels inevitable.
And FC Bayern will be even better with him in the fold.
