Kentucky defensive linemen Mi’Quise Humphrey-Grace was one of the team’s highlight additions during the offseason when the reigning Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year transferred to Kentucky from South Dakota.
For over a decade, there has been a mountain of emphasis and pride behind Kentucky’s capability of both recruiting and developing an offensive line to win up front in the trenches. But that same logic can be applied to the defensive side of the football.
The Wildcats have
an absolutely gruesome schedule this year, so picking a 24-16 victory (though not pretty) over Toledo was very much a needed win to get things started.
Kentucky avoided what was a pretty serious injury scare with Humphrey-Grace in Saturday’s win, as he suffered what head coach Mark Stoops is calling an “ankle” injury and was spotted wearing a boot following the game.
As arguably the team’s best pass rusher, his presence on the field this Saturday against the No. 21 Ole Miss Rebels — who just scored 63 points against Georgia State — would be crucial to any hopes of the Wildcats pulling off a second consecutive victory over Lane Kiffin’s team.
If Humphrey-Grace does miss some action, it’s been indicated that it won’t be for an extended period of time.
More updates on his injury, availability for Saturday, and beyond should come throughout the week.
