Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl has provided a much clearer explanation of what happened with Jamal Musiala and why the Bayern Munich star experienced two alarming incidents during preseason.
Eberl explained that Musiala had been stable while taking his regular medication, but after wanting to reduce his medication and making changes to his treatment, he experienced the two neurological episodes against RB Leipzig and Heidenheim. Bayern Munich had already been aware of his condition
and had successfully managed it throughout the second half of last season.
While he touched on some of this in his press conference earlier on Friday, the veteran personnel man expanded on things later in an interview with ranSport / SAT.1 (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Eberl described the current priority as adjusting Musiala’s medication back to a level that can help him return to a largely seizure-free state.
“Anyone who has to take medication regularly would be happy if they no longer needed to take it and everything could return to normal. That was exactly where we were with Jamal — he was very well stabilized. But then he felt that he wanted to take less medication and changed his medication to some extent. Unfortunately, that has now resulted in two incidents occurring within a very short period of time. His medication is now being adjusted again and brought back to a level that should help us achieve what I would describe as a state of being largely free of seizures. We’ve known about this for some time. We managed the entire second half of the season with this situation, and we had success. Jamal was out on the pitch, and nobody noticed anything. That is what we ideally want to achieve again,” said Eberl.
The hope is now for Musiala to regain that same stability and get back to full health as soon as possible.
