The Pittsburgh Steelers and rising star cornerback Joey Porter Jr. failed to reach an agreement on a long-term extension ahead of the season. Porter did not suit up in Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons, which saw the Steelers win 20-13 and allow just four receptions to wide receivers all afternoon.
Over the last two days, trade rumors involving the former second-round pick have ramped up. Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport reported on Sunday that the Steelers were now open to trading Porter, and it was
reported on Monday by Jeff Risdon that the Detroit Lions have been in contact with the Steelers about a potential Porter trade. Now, in an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Rapoport notes that the Chiefs are another team to watch.
The Chiefs saw rookie Mansoor Delane go down with a shoulder injury on Monday night after picking off Bo Nix.
“Delane is hurt,” Rapoport said. “Brett Veach will make a trade. He’ll be risky, he’ll make a trade.”
As we get closer to Week 2, if Porter remains a limited participant in practice and misses a second straight game, a trade will look increasingly more likely.
