The capper to a flurry of reports and announcements about wrestlers arriving in and leaving AEW came on CMLL Informa… and Tony Khan’s social media timeline.
Powerhouse Hobbs is said to be on his way to WWE
practically as I type this, and it’s believed we’ll see all four of The Rascalz in AEW as we got the first teaser for the group last night (Jan. 14) on Dynamite. But lucha libre fans and sickos alike can count on seeing CMLL’s Mascara Dorada, Hechicero, and Persephone in AEW at least as much as they’ve become accustomed to… and possibly more.
The 24-year-old Dorada just competed in the Continental Classic, racking up 6 points in the Blue League. Persephone is also 24, and has been featured for months on AEW and in Ring of Honor. She challenged Athena for the ROH Women’s title at last month’s Final Battle PPV.
We can’t find Hechicero’s age listed anywhere, but he’s been wrestling for more than 20 years, so he’s definitely less of a rising star than the other two new dual contract holders. But the veteran submission specialist is very familiar to AEW fans, with regular appearances in both of Tony Khan’s promotions since coming in to face Bryan Danielson in early 2024.
It’s another reminder of the growing importance of the Mexican pro wrestling market, which led to WWE’s purchase of AAA and increased demand for luchadors worldwide. And we’ll always celebrate a bigger cut of the pie going to talent.
