Two games were rained out last night, but something very notable happened in Worcester’s game before the hot dog and ice cold beer vendors even had their bags loaded. Let’s get into it.
Worcester: L, 3-4 (BOX SCORE)
The WooSox swept the Jumbo Shrimp with six consecutive wins last week, but the opener against the Tides (Orioles AAA) ended up differently. But, boy, did it start off exciting in Norfolk! Franklin Arias’ first Triple-A hit ended up over the fence and made the score 1-0 in a hurry. It’s also important to note, too,
that the man that Arias got that home run off was Chris Bassitt, who has plenty of MLB service time. It was downhill from there for Worcester, as they had just four other hits on the night, two of them coming in a late rally that came up just short. Normally, the pitching staff (Raymond Burgos, Tyler Uberstine, who I feel is a strong candidate to come up after the trade deadline, and Sam McWilliams) allowed a quiet enough night for the WooSox to win the game, but it was a matter of scarcity most of the time. Here’s that Arias home run, though:
Portland: L, 3-8 (BOX SCORE)
I want it known I am not a big proponent of demoting Tyler McDonough, who was raking in Triple-A with an OPS over 1, back down to Double-A. But he drew an important walk, stole two bases, and hit a double in his first two at-bats Tuesday. Jack Winnay continued seeing the ball well with his two knocks. Along with Nelly Taylor’s multiple-hit night, the 9-1-2 combo had a solid night at the plate. However, it wasn’t enough to overcome eight runs scored by the Senators across nine walks issued even if sixteen Senators did sit down on strikes.
