According to ESPN’s Jeff Kassouf, the NWSL’s board of governors are set to vote on flipping the league’s current calendar to a fall-to-spring schedule matching the top leagues in the world. The vote is set to take place later this month.
The NWSL calendar currently takes place from March to November, the change would see it start in the late summer and end in late spring.
The board has discussed changes for over three seasons with the last being voted down by a slim margin. Even if the vote was successful,
it would take multiple years to implement.
There are many concerns including cold-weather markets, but many games are already hindered by the summer heat. One of the key pushes for the change is how it would help align the league with the FIFA windows as well as other leagues.
With Major League Soccer (MLS) already set to make the change, could NWSL be next?
