Another day, another loss for the Detroit Tigers, who once again failed to score in sufficient quantities en route to a 3-2 loss to the Cleveland Guardians in extra innings on Tuesday night. AJ Hinch got a great performance out of Drew Anderson, and while the bullpen ultimately gave up the lead and the game, it takes more than one run over nine innings to win on almost any given day.
So, on the verge of an embarrassing four-game sweep at Comerica Park at the hands of their American League Central
rivals, the Motor City Kitties turn to right-hander Casey Mize to try and stop the schneid. The 29-year-old looked strong in his return from the injured list last time out, throwing six scoreless frames on two hits and no walks with four strikeouts in a game that his team… sigh… lost in 10 innings to the Toronto Blue Jays, 2-1.
Mize faced Cleveland thrice last year, with the middle start representing his best outing of the 2025 campaign. In it, he went seven innings without allowing a run on four hits and two walks while striking out four in a 1-0 win.
He will be up against left-hander Joey Cantillo, who has been serviceable, but also tends to give up a lot of walks and has also allowed at least a run in all of his appearances this year except for one. His last start against the Olde English D came last fall on Sept. 16, throwing five frames of one-run ball on four hits and two walks while striking out two.
Take a look below at how the two hurlers match up on Thursday afternoon.
