Newcastle United are exploring player sales ahead of the January transfer window as part of a wider effort geared mostly toward managing the current squad size, according to the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope.
Hope reports that sales are being actively sought, with the club conscious of both the volume of senior players and the need to balance squad planning under the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules.
Hope named Jamaal Lascelles as the most likely departure, with the defender seeking regular first-team football after an extended period on the sidelines. Newcastle are understood to be open to allowing him to move on if the right opportunity arises.
Kieran Trippier’s situation is less clear-cut. Hope notes that, prior to Newcastle’s recent defensive injury problems, Trippier was another player who could have left in January. That scenario has become more complicated now due to the club’s current lack of defensive depth, but a move has not been fully ruled out and remains a possibility depending on how those injuries and the respective rehab processes develop.
Joe Willock is also attracting interest as the highest-value player available for sale, but Newcastle’s stance is firm. According to Hope, the midfielder would only be allowed to leave if a serious permanent offer were made, rather than a loan proposal.
Speculation has also circulated externally regarding Fabian Schar’s future, with suggestions that he could be moved on in the new year if he remained out of the team. Hope reports that this is wide of the mark.
Newcastle have no intention of selling Schar, particularly given he is now one of only two fully fit senior defenders available to Eddie Howe.
