Well, at least the voting public in both polls have been consistent with Tennessee for much of this season, and they were again on Sunday after Tennessee’s 37-20 loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Tennessee dropped from 11 down to 17 on Sunday in both the AP and Coaches Polls.
Well, now we know at what point Tennessee will have to work back up to the top of the rankings from. At 5-2, Tennessee now has zero margin for error the rest of the season
if they want to keep their hopes alive for a return to the College Football Playoff.
However, it’s interesting to note that a couple of Tennessee’s biggest remaining opponents made moves in the polls after big wins on Sunday. Vanderbilt is now a top 10 team after beating LSU 31-24 on Saturday, checking in at #10 in the AP Poll (12 in Coaches). Tennessee closes out the regular season with the Commodores as usual on November 29 at home.
Oklahoma also moved up in both polls – up to 13 in AP and 11 in Coaches – after a 26-7 win at South Carolina. The Vols will take on the Sooners and their tricky defense on November 1 in Knoxville.
