I hate the cliche of a “must-win game,” because every game is a “must-win,” especially in the playoffs. With that being said, today’s game is a must-win game. It’s not over yet, but Milwaukee will have
to get the bats going if they want to have any chance at making this a series.
Today’s starter (opener) is Aaron Ashby, who has pitched in all but one game for the Brewers this postseason. Ashby opened Game 1 of the NLDS, walking Shohei Ohtani to start the game but retiring the next three batters for a scoreless first inning. The versatile lefty had a 2.16 ERA in the regular season and sports a 4.26 ERA through 6 1/3 innings in October. The latest word from Curt Hogg and Adam McCalvy is that Jacob Misiorowski will handle bulk duties today, meaning Jose Quintana will likely pitch in Game 4 (whether that’s as the starter or in relief is TBD).
LA’s starter is right-hander Tyler Glasnow, who missed a large chunk of the season with right shoulder inflammation. After returning (funnily enough, against the Brewers on July 9), Glasnow ended up making 18 starts for the Dodgers — sporting a 3.19 ERA and 106 strikeouts through 90 1/3 innings. He hasn’t allowed a run this postseason over 7 2/3 innings, all against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Jake Bauers is once again starting in left field, creating an identical lineup to Tuesday night with Jackson Chourio, Brice Turang, and William Contreras at the top. Christian Yelich bats cleanup as the DH, followed by Andrew Vaughn, Sal Frelick, Caleb Durbin, Bauers, and Joey Ortiz.
First pitch is slated for 5:08 p.m. CT on TBS, HBO Max, ESPN Radio, and the Brewers Radio Network.
