The NBA deadline for extending the contracts of players in the final years of their rookie deals is upon us. Today at 3:00, Pacific the market will close on extensions for the draft class of 2023. That includes Portland Trail Blazers guard Scoot Henderson.
Henderson has played 158 regular-season games since the Blazers selected him third overall in the 2023 NBA Draft. He’s averaged 13.5 points, 5.0 assists. 3.0 rebounds, and 2.9 turnovers in 27.0 minutes per game during that span.
If the Blazers and
Henderson reach an agreement before 3:00 PM, Pacific, Henderson’s extension will take effect next season. If not, Henderson is likely to enter restricted free agency at the conclusion of the coming season.
Because of Henderson’s performance history and a generally weak market for restricted free agents at the current time, it is not expected that the Blazers will come to an accord with their young point guard. We will keep you posted if news gets announced to the contrary.
