Bayern Munich are on their journey to winning as many trophies as possible. The 2026/27 Bundesliga season began a month ago, and so far, are unbeaten in all competitions. Despite the team clearly being in a phase of experimentation, they have been able to make it out of tough spots by dint of extraordinary individual talent.
Adding to their list of games unbeaten, is the 2-1 away win at SV Elversberg. The Bundesliga newcomers hosted Bayern at their home after a dream start to this season with crucial
wins against Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Borussia Monchengladbach. Hoping to add to their list of wins, they fought Bayern valiantly. However, the Bavarians emerged victorious — goals from Lennart Karl and Harry Kane carried them across.
Manager Vincent Kompany, following the win, delivered due credit to their relentless opponents. “Tough opponent, tough place, I’m sure they will get many points here, including against top teams,” Kompany said, per @iMiaSanMia. “But we had our moments today and could’ve scored even more goals. We’re happy with the 3 points,” he went on.
Coming to what was lacking in Bayern, Kompany identified the major issue as being the team missing major chances. “The recurring theme in the past few games has been missing big chances. Against Schalke and Bodø, we were dominant and the counter-pressing was really good. But today it wasn’t great. We simply weren’t there,” he further explained.
Not everything is to do with Bayern’s own performance of course, the opponent too deserves credit here. “It also has to do with the opponent, they were brave and good on the ball. But if you don’t press well, then it becomes difficult,” Kompany further said.
“Nevertheless, it’s also good to manage to get the win when you’re not at 100%. That’s a quality,” he declared.
Bayern certainly was not at their best, but as the manager stated, their quality bailed them out. Perhaps, when the adjustment period is over, Bayern will no longer need to be bailed out as such.
