Illini fans are in for a treat this season. The new video board at Gies Memorial Stadium is updated and larger than ever. The board, built and installed by Daktronics, measures 70 feet by 250 feet, totaling over 17 thousand square feet and making it the largest in college football. The second largest at Auburn, measuring around 11 thousand square feet, now pales in comparison.
With over 16 million pixels in the display, fans will notice a much clearer and more detailed board. Add in a panoramic/curved
screen, and that field of view will only add to the immersion. Tailgaters are also getting a gift. Two new rear displays will be facing State Farm Center.
Last weekend, some fans were able to get an early viewing of the screen. Air Bud was played to fans, per request of David Mirković. The showing gave fans a peek of what is to come this season.
The board should only add to an already exciting upcoming season. All fans can enjoy the new video board soon, when Illinois opens up the season against UAB on September 3.
