Cortes-Acosta was very close to making a case for a title shot, racking up a 7-1 record to begin his UFC career, which included winning five straight before he ran into Sergei Pavlovich in 2025, who snapped his hot streak after 15 minutes of action. After that, “Salsa Boy” was able to lock down three knockout wins (two in the first round), leading everyone to believe that he was well on his way to making another case for himself in the championship conversation. He then ran into another towering Russian bruiser, Alexander Volkov, who ruined his momentum thanks to a convincing unanimous decision win. In his follow up fight, he lost to Curtis Blaydes — also via unanimous decision — suffering the first two-fight losing streak of his career, placing a big damper on his title fight dreams. Now, “Salsa Boy” finds himself in a tough spot against Walker because another loss will take him out of the Top 10 and his championship aspirations would drift further and further away.
Walker, meanwhile, made his UFC Heavyweight debut in his last fight, knocking out Mick Parkin in the first round at UFC 332 thanks to a vicious knee (see it here). And just like that, the man once thought to be a legitimate threat to the Light Heavyweight crown put the big men on notice, earning a spot on the Top 15 (No. 12). Now, the towering Brazilian will attempt to go two-for-two as he starts a title run in a new weight class, one he was unable to secure when he was fighting at 205 pounds. Walker obviously has the length, height and build to make some noise in the land of the big men, and it may not take him too long to crack the Top 5. But, he can’t get ahead of himself here against Cortes-Acosta, a true Heavyweight with championship fight aspirations of his own. I don’t expect this fight to make it the full 25 minutes, and it could deliver some fireworks … for as long as it lasts.
Original Card Vs. Actual Card/Injuries:
Sean Brady was originally set to face Gabriel Bonfim in the main event before he suffered an injury that forced him out of the fight. As a result, the promotion scrambled last-minute and was able to book the Heavyweight scrap between Walker vs. Cortes-Acosta.
A Featherweight bout between Austin Bashi vs. Lucas Brennan was scrapped after Brennan had to withdraw due after tearing his ACL. He was ultimately replaced by Octagon newcomer, Carlos Calderon. Mantas Kondratavicius vs. Wesley Schultz were also set to throw down on this card before Schultz pulled out from the event and was replaced by Andre Petroski for a Middleweight showdown.
New Blood:
The aforementioned Calderon is set to make his UFC debut after an extended run under both the Fury FC and Combate promotions. Currently on a three-fight win streak, “The Chief” will face Bashi in his first fight inside the Octagon. Bashi is just 1-2 with the promotion, so it would be nice if he can ruin Calderon’s debut to jumpstart his own momentum.
Gabriel Lorenco lost his first first professional fight via knockout way back in 2021. Since then, however, he has rattled off eight straight wins — seven by way of stoppage — which includes a first round knockout on Contender Series. Now, the towering big man will look to keep rolling as he faces Thomas Petersen, who has been inconsistently consistent by alternating wins and losses throughout his UFC career for a record of 3-4.
Marcos Degli will make his UFC debut after racking up 13 straight wins in the minors, including winning his fight on Contender Series just two months ago. Twelve of this wins were stoppages (six in the first round), so he is all about the business. In his first fight, he will battle Mitch Raposo, who lost his first two fights under UFC’s banner, but has since won two straight via decision.
How The ‘Prelims’ Look:
Karine Silva got off to a great start to her UFC career, winning four straight fights coming out of Contender Series. Since that hot start, however, she has gone just 1-3, losing her last two fights against Maycee Barber and Jasmine Jasudavicius. “Killer” has to get a win tonight to avoid losing her third straight and avoid falling further down the ladder. She has a tough foe though, who will look to send her home with another loss in Gabriella Fernandes, who is coming off a loss against Casey O’Neill.
Murtazali Magomedov is undefeated (11-0) — all stoppage wins — and made a great impression by submitting Melsik Baghdasaryan in the first round via a twister five months ago (see that here). Looking to stay undefeated, “The Highlight” will take on Jose Delano in a Featherweight bout. Delano is on a five-fight win streak, which includes his unanimous decision win earlier this year in his debut fight for the promotion.
Wellington Turman is another man who is in desperate need of a win after losing his last three fights, with his last win coming four years ago. He will look to right his ship as he battles it out against Seok Hyeon Ko, who saw his six-fight win streak come to an end at the hands of Jean-Paul Lebosnoyani.
Winner of eight straight, Keiichiro Nakamura is coming off a knockout win over Sebastian Szalay fresh off his great run on Road to UFC, Season 4. He will face Ollie Schmid in a Featherweight showdown. Schmid was unable to impress in his UFC debut after losing to Marwan Rahiki via first round knockout.
Who Needs A Win Badly:
Priscila Cachoeira — the dirtiest fighter on UFC’s roster — is in desperate need of a win after losing three in a row. Going back a bit further, “Zombie” is just 1-5 in her last six outings inside the Octagon, so if she loses one more against Nina Milosevic — who is scorching hot with nine straight wins, which includes an impressive UFC debut by defeating Hailey Cowan in the first round (highlights) — it could very well be the final straw for matchmakers to cut her.
Interest Level: 6.5/10
Both Tatiana Suarez and Virna Jandiroba suffered losses in their first and only title fights under the UFC banner, with Suarez losing to Zhang Weili at UFC 312 and Jandiroba coming up short against Mackenzie Dern at UFC 321. Now, they will face off against one another to see who can take a big step in working her way back to the big dance. Since the loss to Weili, Suarez has won two straight, while Jandiroba got back on track by defeating Tabatha Ricci. This fight should be very entertaining and competitive, but it’s safe to say Suarez has the distinct advantage in the wrestling department. That said, once it goes to the ground it will get very interesting because Jandiroba has 14 submissions wins in her career. This one should be close.
Elijah Smith is currently on an eight-fight win streak, which includes winning his first three fights under the UFC banner after making his was in via the Contender Series. The man they call “Swift” has been on a tear over the last three years with no intentions on slowing down. He has a “Dangerous” opponent looking to end his run in the former of Davey Grant, who is 1-3 in his last four inside the Octagon. His was most recently seen defeating Adrian Luna Martinetti in April of this year.
Lucas Fernando is looking to lock down his sixth straight win when he faces Billy Elekana in a battle of surging light heavyweight contenders. Elekana has won three straight, so the winner of this hard-hitting fight could very well earn himself in the Top 15.
Mantas Kondratavicius got off on the right foot in his UFC debut by defeating Antonio Trocoli to secure his fourth straight win. He will look to keep his momentum going as he takes on Andre Petroski, who is in desperate need of a win after losing his last three fights, his last two by way of knockout. Should he lose his fourth in a row tonight it could signal the end of the road for his UFC career.
