Your Oregon Ducks faced off against the Oregon State Beavers on Tuesday afternoon, looking to keep their winning ways going after a 2-1 weekend in Vegas. The Ducks started off strong, with a quick 1-2-3 inning in the top half of the first inning, and scoring a game’s first run in the bottom of the first on a Maddox Molony RBI double. But the Beavers would strike back in the 3rd inning, leading off with a solo homerun, and picking up another on a two-out RBI double, giving OSU a 2-1 lead.
The 5th inning
would be when things would really start to unravel for Oregon, giving up three more runs on an RBI double, a wild pitch, and a sacrifice bunt, to make it 5-1 Beavers. They would plate another two in the 6th, but they would be immediately countered by an Angel Laya two-run homer in the bottom half of the inning, 7-3 OSU.
Things would only get worse for Oregon in the top of the 7th, when the Beavers would hit a two-out, bases clearing, 3-RBI double and propel them even further ahead at 10-3. The Ducks would rally in the bottom of the 8th, scoring three runs on a Drew Smith groundout, an Angel Laya triple, and a Burke-Lee Mabeus single, but that would be all she wrote, and the Beavers would come out on top 10-6.
That was… not an enjoyable baseball game to watch. The bats went real cold for a large portion of the game, not even getting anyone on base for 4/9 innings. That’s just not a recipe for success, no matter who you’re playing. We’ve seen what this team can do offensively, now they just have to do it consistently. That will be one of the biggest X-factors for this group, along with bullpen consistency. Which, unfortunately, was also not the greatest today (6 runs in 6 innings of work). But it’s a long season, and we’re just getting started. Let’s see how things shake out.
As always, ‘Sco Ducks
