The Yankees made their first signing of the offseason — re-signing Ryan Yarbrough to a one-year deal. It’s nothing groundbreaking, but ensuring that Yarbrough remains in pinstripes for 2026 means that the rotation will be a little more sturdy while the team awaits the debuts of Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodón. Yarbrough did yeoman’s work in the rotation last season when they were all banged up, and he can shift over to the bullpen with ease when the staff is at full strength. Now, hopefully they’ll
follow up with some big moves in the coming weeks that we can really get into, but for now they’re on the board.
Our offseason stroll continues with a handful of articles, but we’ve also got some expected breaking news later in the day. John starts us off with a look at Pete Alonso and his at-first-glance seemingly strange fit should he switch boroughs, and then Nolan takes us through a recap of the Arizona Fall League now that it’s concluded before Matt hops in to give a report card to Ian Hamilton. Be on the lookout as today is also the deadline for two significant things: Trent Grisham will have to accept or decline his qualifying offer this afternoon, and the Yankees will have to update their 40-man roster to include anyone they want to protect ahead of the Rule 5 Draft. We’ll have updates on what choices are made in both cases when they happen, so stick around to find out.
Questions/Prompts:
1. Will Grisham accept the qualifying offer today? Should he, or will his free agent market prove lucrative?
2. With Naylor off the board now, will the other first base options see their markets heat up, or will the next major signing come at a different position?
