Newcastle United have publicly dismissed reports claiming the club is on the verge of signing one of the wingers linked to the club of late.
Feyenoord winger Anis Hadj Moussa has been heavily linked with a move to St. James’ Park in recent days, with multiple reports going as far as suggesting Newcastle had already reached an agreement on a five-year contract and were closing in on a deal with the Dutch club.
However, according to 365Scores, Newcastle sporting director Ross Wilson has rejected those
claims in comments made directly to the outlet.
365Scores says Wilson denied there is any agreement in place with Hadj Moussa and insisted reports suggesting advanced negotiations are inaccurate. According to 365Scores, Newcastle’s sporting director also stressed that the stories circulating in the Algerian media “do not reflect the actual procedures followed by the club in the current transfer market.”
“Ross Wilson, the sporting director of Newcastle United, revealed in an exclusive statement to 365Scores the truth about the rumors circulating about the imminent arrival of Algerian international Anis Hadj Moussa, winger for Feyenoord, to the English team during the current summer transfer window,” the report says. “Wilson categorically denied the existence of any agreement or advanced formal negotiations to sign the 24-year-old player, stressing that what is being circulated in the Algerian press does not reflect the actual procedures followed by the club in the current transfer market.”
The denial comes after La Gazette du Fennec reported Newcastle were preparing an offer worth £32 million plus £3 million in add-ons, while Feyenoord were seeking around £37 million for the 24-year-old.
Hadj Moussa has been floated as a Newcastle target following Matthias Jaissle’s arrival due to his supposed appeal to the coach, who seemingly admired the winger during his time at Al-Ahli and attempted to sign him before that move failed to materialize.
Despite Wilson’s comments, the player’s future remains uncertain, to say the least. Hadj Moussa enjoyed an impressive 2025-26 campaign, scoring 14 goals and providing seven assists in 50 appearances for Feyenoord, while his agent, Mohamed Dahman, indicated last month that the winger is expected to leave the Dutch club this summer.
Dutch outlet Voetbal International has also reported Feyenoord have yet to receive any bid from Newcastle, despite the growing speculation, with the Eredivisie side currently waiting for clarity on Hadj Moussa’s future before advancing plans to sign a replacement and make other moves.
With Wilson now publicly denying reports of an imminent agreement, it appears any potential Newcastle move remains far less advanced than recent speculation suggested.
