Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton told NFL Network’s Cynthia Frelund that they will explore bringing in former New Orleans Saints veteran tight end/quarterback/running back Taysom Hill.
Hill flourished under Sean Payton with the Saints and had teams scrambling to find the next Taysom Hill every year since. Now, the soon-to-be
36-year-old tight end who recently said his goodbyes to the Saints is a free agent, and the team will apparently explore the idea of bringing him in. Hill, in his goodbye message, said he is still working through what comes next, and many assumed he was heading towards retirement; he still could, but a trip to Mile High could be in the cards for the do-it-all player.
First, the Broncos would have to see if Hill wants to continue playing. He turns 36 years old at the end of the month and has dealt with injuries the past few seasons. If he wants to continue, it would make sense to bring him in and see what he has left in the tank. He could add depth at the tight end position, give them a goal-line option at fullback, tight end, running back, or even quarterback.
The Broncos’ tight end depth is suspect at best. Veteran Adam Trautman is likely your starter, with Evan Engram, who had a great start to camp, as the main receiving threat. After that, you have a mix of Day 3 rookies and fringe roster players. So, Hill could make sense for the Broncos and give them some added depth at the position.
It remains to be seen if anything comes from this, but it appears Sean Payton and the Broncos are at least exploring the idea of bringing in Taysom Hill. What do you think, Broncos Country?
