Lamine Yamal has revealed how Barcelona legend Sergio Busquets gave him some vital advice earlier on his career at the club.
The teenager found himself in hot water with the Spain Under-17 team back in 2023 and was mortified when Busquets found out about the situation and told him he needed to toe the line.
“I was once suspended from the youth national team for three weeks because we did some silly things, and Busi grabbed me one day as I was going up to training and said, ‘What did you do with the national team?’”
he told Movistar.
“Of course, he was serious; I was just a kid and I was terrified. I told him what happened, and he said, ‘Now you’re at Barça, everyone knows who you are, and no matter what kind of player you are, you have to behave.’
“From then on, I put my whole life on hold and dedicated myself entirely to football. I didn’t go out; I trained, played, rested, went to see my mother, and then it was football, football, and more football.”
Yamal has since gone on to become a key player for Spain, winning Euro 2024 with La Roja and then topping that last summer by clinching the World Cup.
Meanwhile, Busquets has now returned to Camp Nou and is currently working as an assistant coach for Barca Atletic.
