Khamzat Chimaev has shared his thoughts on the viral brawl with Dillon Danis following their brief RAF10 freestyle wrestling match.
That match was won by Chimaev in just 50 seconds after he grabbed Danis in a fireman’s carry and pinned him for the win. But Danis wasn’t really trying to escape. He seemed to abandon wrestling the moment he got into a position to attempt a choke on Chimaev. That’s, to put it mildly, not exactly allowed in freestyle wrestling. When Chimaev stood up and protested, Danis kicked
him. Chimaev kicked back, and then suddenly the place was flooded with members of both men’s teams as a brawl ensued.
The last time there was a brawl at an RAF event between Arman Tsarukyan and Georgio Poullas, leadership went ahead and booked an immediate rematch between the two. They seemed more upset about this brawl, which certainly hit a higher temperature than the last.
Now Chimaev is speaking out on the incident in a new interview with Red Corner MMA.
“What should I think? Stupid guys do stupid things,” Chimaev said. “I expect something like that. He knows he wasn’t my level in wrestling so he felt that and then he tried to sub me. Like do submission, bro! If he did a submission on me, I’m never going to train again. He’s a weird guy, honestly. You know I try to hold myself but this idiot do stupid things. What should we do?”
Chimaev suggested he’d hoped to keep whatever violence he had in mind for Danis outside of the RAF mat.
“I was thinking [of] winning the match then outside I want to ask him, ‘Let’s go. Let’s dance outside,'” he said. “I asked him before, ‘[Let’s] do a street fight,’ you know? He don’t want it. He knew a lot of security is going to be there and that’s why he was doing same s–t stuff.”
Chimaev declared that Danis could still get it if he was brave enough to set a time and place.
“Whenever he wants, just send me a message [with] location, wherever you are and so I’m open,” the former UFC champ said.
