Dro Fernández arrived in Paris without the usual noise that surrounds young talents leaving FC Barcelona, but the path that took him to Paris Saint-Germain had been forming for months. According to Cadena
SER, the midfielder had already begun to suspect last year that his role at Barça would be marginal, both this season and possibly the next. Appearances were scarce, spells with the reserve team raised doubts, and the lack of connection in day-to-day work made him question whether staying was the right call.
Iván de la Peña, Dro’s agent and a close friend of Luis Enrique, was well aware of the player’s situation and kept lines of communication open with the PSG coach. The possibility of leaving in January was realistic, with PSG ready to act quickly once the window opened.
The final deal was wrapped up for around eight million euros, slightly above the clause, a structure that helped avoid tax complications. PSG reportedly saw the operation as a low-cost move for a midfielder considered among the most promising of his age group. Dro signed until 2030 and will wear the number 27 shirt in Paris.
Speaking ahead of PSG’s Champions League clash with Newcastle, Luis Enrique was asked repeatedly about his new signing. He avoided framing it as a headline move, instead placing it within the club’s broader approach. “We expect the same from him as from every player,” he said, before insisting that PSG remain alert during transfer windows. “We like young players with quality,” Enrique added, calling Dro a player who “can be important in the future.”
“If you do well in training, you’ll play matches,” he said, a message aimed as much at Dro as at the rest of the squad. For now, the midfielder will have to wait for his Champions League debut, as he cannot be registered until the group phase ends.
Inside the dressing room, the reaction has been supportive. Willian Pacho highlighted the trust Luis Enrique places in younger players and the competitive environment they are stepping into. “I’m happy that Dro is here at PSG,” he said, before pointing out that age is not a barrier under this coach. “If you do well in training, you can play the match.”
The first contact between player and coach was deliberately relaxed. Luis Enrique joked during their initial meeting, telling him, “Here you sign for 50 goals and 50 assists.” Dro, who has already trained with the group, was measured. “I’m very happy and proud to join Paris Saint-Germain,” he said. “It’s a moment of great pride for me and my family. PSG is a huge club that I’ve followed since I was a child. I’m very motivated to play and give everything for this shirt.”
