Back when Georgia would play South Carolina within the first few weeks of a season, you always had a degree of the unknown. As such, it made you nervous. It didn’t matter how good of team the Dawgs had. It was still one still ironing out rough spots early in the season, and you could count on either a tough-nosed Gamecocks team or, depending on the season, dealing with Williams-Brice Stadium.
Even having a talent advantage put some really good Georgia teams in a tough spot – see 2002 and 2004, for
starters. But the Bulldogs overcame that.
This week feels very much the same. On both sides of this Georgia-Tennessee game, there is an unknown, so many unprovens. Will Georgia take off the offensive training wheels? Did the Hillbillies only look good because of inferior competition? It’s what, really, to be honest, has taken some buzz off this game.
Still, it is Georgia-Tennessee. A game that’s the most important one for Dawg fans in North Georgia, especially near Chattanooga. And given that the future SEC schedules will likely not make this game an annual affair, here’s to hoping that everyone, both in person and at home, soaks up everything Saturday, hopefully, of course, a Georgia win.
It’s the time of the week when Coach Smart and select players look ahead to the next opponent, and this week going to the Tennessee game is no exception. The Top Dawg as well as Peyton Woodring and Colbie Young touched on multiple topics, and the Red & Black has a good wrap up of it.
To say that Georgia’s offensive line needs Juan Gaston and Earnest Greene at UT Saturday is an understatement. Both have done more work in practice, but whether or not they can play? Time will tell.
But if you want to know why Gunner Stockton is salivating, consider that both of the Vols’ starting cornerbacks are out with injuries.
Speaking of Stockton, here’s what Aaron Murray sees after looking at some early-season film
Go Dawgs!
