One of the best moments of Maurice Krattenmacher’s career arguably would’ve been the sublime goal he scored for SV Elversberg in their 2-1 loss to Bayern Munich back in the middle of September. While he was on the losing side of that particular affair, the finish that gave Jonas Urbig little to no chance typifies just how much the 21-year-old has continued to grow ever since Bayern sold him to Elversberg over the summer. At the time, his goal came close to earning Elversberg a historic point in what
had been a sensational start to their 2026/27 Bundesliga season, but an inevitable 72nd-minute goal from Harry Kane denied that from happening.
Nonetheless, we saw a bright glimpse of a promising young midfielder that Bayern have been keeping a very close eye on ever since they sold him during the summer transfer window.
The youngster had spent last season on loan at Hertha Berlin after completing a season-long loan stint with SSV Ulm before Bayern wound up selling him to Elversberg this summer with the goal of getting him solid Bundesliga experience. The German Rekordmeister made sure to secure a buy-back clause in his contract, though, knowing the upside of him doing well with Elversberg, which he has been doing thus far.
Per information from Bild’s Julian Agardi and Christian Falk (via @iMiaSanMia), Krattenmacher’s buy-back clause with Bayern in his Elversberg deal is worth €7.5m as Bayern continues to monitor his situation in the Neunkirchen district of Saarland. Additionally, Krattenmacher’s contract with SV Elversberg currently runs through June 2030, but reportedly contains a release clause of €9m for other clubs. At face value, the slight discount Bayern would enjoy compared to other clubs triggering his release clause makes bringing him back all the more enticing, especially if he continues to perform well for Elversberg.
For what it’s worth, Bayern’s hierarchy and Vincent Kompany are still hopeful that Krattenmacher will continue his development to the point where he could one day return to the club. That’s one of the main reasons why the club included the buy-back option in his deal with Elversberg. The embrace Kompany and the youngster shared after Bayern’s narrow win in Elversberg was perhaps a glimpse of things to come for the reigning Bundesliga champions.
