Chelsea look set to reinforce our defensive group this January after all, but it looks like we will do so with an in-house option, rather than by splurging on some other player with high potential. The
Blues are expected to recall Mamadou Sarr from his loan at sister-club RC Strasbourg.
New head coach Liam Rosenior seems to have been a key motivating factor behind this decision, with the two having worked together to good effect at RCSA over the past couple seasons. More recently, Sarr also played a starring role in Senegal’s victory at the Africa Cup of Nations, stepping in for an injured Kalidou Koulibaly to maintain their impressive defensive record at the tournament.
Another recently recalled defender, Aarón Anselmino, may be sent the other way to help make up the numbers at Strasbourg, and continue his own development, though a few reports have claimed that he’s not too keen on that just yet after spending time at Borussia Dortmund in the first half of the season.
The transfer window slams shut on Monday, so we don’t have much time left to figure all this out.
