The standings tightened slightly at the top thanks to an off week from Import (4-7) while Andrew was 8-3. It is just a 3-game lead now. Cole may be in striking distance through bowl season, but he is still
6 back after going 5-6. I am tied with you rabble after my 7-4 closed the 1-game gap. Christian stayed close by matching me while Tom fell back into a solo last place by going 5-6. Overall, the staff had a decent rivalry week at 36-30 which brings us to 417-381 on the season. The staff’s 52.26% picks are ahead of the Commentariat’s 50.38%.
The problems last week were that Ole Miss’s Lane Kiffin circus did not keep them from beating the hell out of Mississippi State while Texas upset Texas A&M. Michigan and Georgia Tech keeping it close with Ohio State and Georgia, respectively, did not help either. We were perfect in taking the Commodores over THEM and only one of us thought Kentucky could stay within a FG of Louisville. The same was true of thinking Arkansas could hang around Missouri.
For conference championship week, every game that could theoretically impact the CFP was selected, and we will look ahead to Army-Navy next week. With the chance that 7-5 Duke beats Virginia in the ACC Championship, the Sun Belt, American, and even Mountain West could see their champion getting into the CFP. The Big XII championship also involves BYU trying to force their way into the CFP. The SEC and B1G are just worried about seeding.
The 3 G5 conference championship games all kickoff tonight, so feel free to use this as an open thread for those games. Hopefully you got your picks in on the Commentariat ballot already!
The Rules
- Normally, the picks are for all SEC games with one dealer’s choice where I get to choose another game to make us pick.
- The picks will be made AGAINST THE SPREAD. Too many games are easy to pick heads up. Also, this will serve as a PSA for why you should not get into sports gambling, which is especially important with sports gambling being legal in Tennessee now.
- The lines will be taken from FanDuel, who SB Nation has partnered with this season, some time Monday, so they may not match what is listed at the time this article is published. I may also use a backup for FBS-FCS matchups if the line is available elsewhere when I get the spreads.
