Woof. It’s rare that you don’t feel amazing about a double digit win, but that’s where we found ourselves. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish did beat the Boston College Eagles by 2 scores, but it was the process
of the overall game that became insanely frustrating. Stalling drives, inexplicable fumbles, a defense that gave up a lot of the middle of the field, and oh yeah, some actually abysmal kicking.
All of that is to say, there are some overreactions that happened because the Irish should have rolled BC by about 20-30 points at least. Also, we’ll call these overreactions especially because the Irish still won. That’s something Miami, Vandy, and Georgia Tech all can’t say. The Irish were really making me truly realize that the ugliest win is still better than any loss.
Overreactions to ND @ BC
Now, Chief is a superfan, so let’s put that into perspective. Many of us probably thought along these similar lines during the game. It was a pretty awful performance in a game. BUT, Notre Dame doesn’t suck overall, that was a bad game. Which ultimately makes the game even worse because we have all seen how they can handle business. It just didn’t really happen on Saturday afternoon.
Three fumbles inside the red zone this season is a TOUGH watch for such a bowling ball and dynamic running back. I understand the sentiment, but accounting for around a dozen touchdowns already this season means he needs to be a strong part of the offense. Again, a bad a game for a very good player/team.
Have there been struggles playing down to competition? Yes, you can’t deny the examples shown here. The last one in this list did end up in a win, though. And, comparing Marcus Freeman to Willingham certainly is a choice – one that I don’t and won’t make.
