Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund has known Dayot Upamecano since his days in Salzburg, so the relationship runs deep.
Still, even Freund, while confident, is unsure what decision Upamecano
will make when it comes to his next contract.
“It’s always difficult to say, but I’m very confident. I’ve known Upa for a long time. He moved to Salzburg when he was 16, and I know how important it is for him to feel comfortable, to be able to play football in this style. Therefore, I’m positive about what we can offer, but I can’t influence what others do,” Freund told Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Freund might need to leverage that relationship as Real Madrid, Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, and Inter Milan are all eyeing the French center-back. Upamecano might not want to leave Bayern Munich at the moment, but those clubs will surely attempt to meet any of the center-back’s demands that the Bavarians are balking on.
