Two days of baseball against the Nationals and two smooth wins. The Yanks will try to get to three in a row this afternoon against Cade Cavalli. It’s not really going to impress anyone to sweep a cellar-dweller like the 2025 Nats, but if you take care of business, it’s absolutely appreciated (even the 1998 Yankees lost a game to the expansion Devil Rays because you can’t predict baseball, Suzyn). Still, the Yanks need to be sweeping like this one at this point in the season. They dug themselves a bit
of a hole in the AL East and if they’re going to remain bumpy against other contenders, then they need to steamroll teams like the Nats (and the White Sox, who they’ll face next). They have one of MLB’s lighter schedules down the stretch, so they must take advantage.
Today on the site, Peter will spotlight Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s late homer on Sunday against Boston for his At-Bat of the Week feature, Matt will run through the Rivalry Roundup, and then he’ll have a second spotlighting the latest exploits of the 2000 Yankees, 25 years ago today. Then we’ll have afternoon baseball to close out this series against the Nats.

Questions/Prompts:
1. Do we have a sweep on deck today? Or do you think the Nats steal one on getaway day?
2. An extremely stupid question that I randomly remembered popping into my head in the middle of the night: Which 19th-century U.S. president would be the best bunter and why? (The mind is a mysterious place.)
