Good morning, baseball fans!
Before Friday’s San Francisco Giants game, I had not heard a single thing about the “Tarps Off” trend that is sweeping the nation’s sporting events. So I was quite confused when I saw hundreds of fans at the game taking their shirts off and waving them around, to the delight and amusement of broadcasters Mike Krukow and Duane Kuiper.
Admittedly, fans needed something to cheer about in the late innings of Friday night’s loss to the Chicago White Sox. And Kruk & Kuip latched
on to the movement, finding absolute joy in the fans’ enthusiastic endeavors and noting that they wanted to go join in.
Personally, I love the enthusiasm and respect the dedication. Fan engagement is huge, and if that’s what it takes to get the crowd hyped up and the vibes flowing, I’m all for it! That said, I feel like it’s honestly a terrible, terrible idea for a night game at Oracle Park, regardless of the time of year. (But I’m getting older, and require a jacket even for day games these days. So value my opinion on this topic for about what you paid for it.)
What do you think about the “Tarps Off” trend?
What time do the Giants play today?
The Giants wrap up this home series against the Arizona Diamondbacks this afternoon at 12:45 p.m. PT.
